Cookie Policy
This page explains what data is stored in your browser when you use FindYourLostPets, and how to control it.
Overview
FindYourLostPets is a nonprofit project. We use Google Analytics 4 only — no advertising cookies, no third-party tracking pixels, and no data sold to anyone. Analytics are loaded only after you give consent.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They help websites remember information about your visit — like your language preference or whether you've accepted analytics. Some cookies are set by the site you're visiting; others are set by third-party services embedded on the page.
We also use localStorage (a browser storage mechanism similar to cookies) to remember your consent choice. It works the same way for consent purposes and is subject to the same controls.
Cookies we use
Strictly necessary
These are set regardless of consent because they're required for the site to function as described.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
fylp_analytics_consent | Stores your consent choice. Stored in localStorage, not a cookie, but treated the same for consent purposes. Contains only "granted" or "denied". | Until browser data is cleared | FindYourLostPets |
Analytics (optional — requires consent)
These are only set after you click "Accept" on the consent banner.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes unique visitors for Google Analytics 4. | 2 years | Google Analytics |
_ga_BZ35NJ4FMB | Maintains session state for this GA4 property. | 2 years | Google Analytics |
How we use analytics data
We use aggregate traffic data to understand how people navigate the site, where they drop off in the pet-reporting workflow, and which guides are most useful. This helps us improve the product for people searching for lost pets.
We do not use analytics data for advertising. We do not share data with third parties for commercial purposes. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors.
Third-party services
Analytics data is processed by Google LLC under their Privacy Policy. IP anonymization is enabled for all GA4 requests, meaning your full IP address is never stored by Google.
We have no other third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services embedded on the site.
Your choices
You can accept or decline analytics cookies at any time. Your choice is saved in your browser's localStorage and applies to all visits from this browser. You can also withdraw a previously granted consent below.
Browser controls
You can also manage or delete cookies directly through your browser settings:
Clearing cookies will also clear your consent preference — you'll be asked again on your next visit.
